Just How Important Is Instagram To Facebook?

Instagram now reaches more than 500 million people each month and 300 million each day, lengthening its lead over Twitter and underscoring Facebook’s beachhead of popular mobile apps with escalating growth around the globe.

Instagram launched in 2010 and grew to 100 million users in two years.

Photo-sharing app Instagram says it now has more than 500 million monthly users, and more than 300 million who use it everyday. The platform has surpassed Twitter by a large margin and has become the favourite social app among many celebrities. Additionally, most of its growth came from countries outside of the United States, as it now claims 80% of its monthly active users live outside the USA versus “more than 75 percent” in its previous update at 400 million. Recently, the social networking site announced that it has reached 500 million monthly users.

The company announced today it has seen its user base more than double over the past two years.

This morning, in a post on the company blog, Instagram proudly proclaimed it had reached half a billion users around the world with 80 percent of those being located outside the United States. “Nothing about ads or how many ads we show is affected by what happens with the algorithm. this is all about making sure that you see the best stuff”.

Facebook, Inc., incorporated on July 29, 2004, builds products that enable people to connect and share through mobile devices and personal computers.

The picture sharing app revealed that an average of 95 million videos and images are posted each day on the platform.

The jump in Instagram users – and their advertising-pleasing demographics – has helped Facebook bill Instagram as a buy for marketers looking to increase awareness and spur sales. It was acquired by Facebook for a whopping $1 billion in 2012 when Instagram just had 13 employees and about 22 million monthly users.

Still, SunTrust analyst Bob Peck noted that most of Instagram’s recent growth has come in overseas markets. Though Instagram’s ad revenue doesn’t make up much of Facebook’s revenue figures that are upwards of $26 billion now, as time goes on that is incredibly possible to change.

Earlier this year, Instagram caused controversy by introducing a system that changed the order in which photographs were posted.
