If you spend eight years as commander-in-chief of the United States but don’t get picked for a jury, is it a relief or an affront?
Bush spokesman Freddy Ford confirmed Bush’s appearance.
Jurors – including Desiree’ Bryant who described meeting Bush as “awesome – shared photographs of themselves standing next to the smiling former president”.
The Dallas Morning News reports another potential juror, Joel Ehambe, sat in front of the president and turned around to spot him.
“He was very personable, very friendly, just ‘Hey, I’m here to serve.’ He asked questions and was very nice”.
“I turned around and he was seated right behind me and I said, “I think I know that guy”, he told the newspaper”.
He was allowed to postpone his service in 2005, on the grounds that he was a bit busy running the country at the time.
Former President Bill Clinton said he was willing to serve on a case involving a shooting in 2003, but the judge dismissed him.
British prime minsters – and any MP – are officially exempt from jury service but Tony Blair was called up while in Downing Street in 2000.
