Attorney General Loretta Lynch has thanked a group of police officers in Baton Rouge for their work during “challenging times” after the shooting that killed three law enforcement officers earlier this month.
Lynch and Biden’s visit underscores the Obama administration’s commitment to police safety.
The shootings came amid a series of deadly encounters igniting debate over policing and minorities in the United States.
The vigil took place Thursday against a somber but tense backdrop. He and two other Northport police officers attended the funeral for officer Montrell Jackson, who was killed in an ambush attack on July 17.
“The shooting in Dallas was a blatant attack against police”, said Sgt. Jeff Young, a veteran of the Bannock County Sheriff’s Department with 23 years on the force and 20 years on the Honor Guard. The Baton Rouge Police Department averaged 94 narcotics offenses per week from the start of 2011 through July 4, 2016 – the day before Sterling was killed.
Tonja Garafola said she was anxious about the recent attacks of law enforcement and was afraid her husband Brad would be targeted, “That morning I kissed him a little longer and held him a little tighter”.
The vice president also recounted losing his first wife and daughter in a 1972 traffic accident. I owe you. My wife owes you, my children owe you.
At the heart of almost two weeks of a community working to cope with tremendous loss are messages of healing, hope and peace.
“When that assassin’s bullet targeted our heroes and he was an assassin he not only targeted them, he targeted the city”.
“It’s an uncommon fraternity”, he told them, “because your husbands were uncommon men”. You knew him. He was the boy with the most courage and the most compassion. “Everybody, everybody in the country is talking about them”.
“This is not about black and white, this is about a city”, the vice president said.
He said that officers were anxious that he was lying about the medication in order to commit suicide.
Cpl. Montrell Jackson, 32, was a new father.
Having been to several law enforcement and military funerals, I often wondered, “Why couldn’t these people see the honor being bestowed on them before their lives ended?” “They ended up praying together because loss is loss is loss”.
Officers also allegedly forced Alexander’s friend to pee in a bottle in the back of the police vehicle.
“Hey, you were just in the Walmart changing, right?”
Biden said that relationships between communities and police had suffered since 2001 or 2002, when resources were redirected to fighting terrorism.
“It used to be you guys had the resources to show up and hang out at the Boys and Girls Club.”
“You actually got to know the neighborhood”. The son who always made you smile just looking at you.
They didn’t know it but someone had just called 911 describing two black men entering the store and changing clothes just after Gavin Long shot six law enforcement officers across the river.

The same was true for communities, Biden said. “Joined by this collective heartache, we are joined by our common humanity”. “He’s got three kids'”.
