With superhero films being a part of shared universes, it has become somewhat of staple to name drop or have some sort of Easter Egg that hints at future sequels.

Before Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was even released the internet was abuzz with Darkseid talk.

The report has some merit, considering the appearance of Steppenwolf in a deleted “Batman v Superman” scene – which will soon be available on the Blu-ray extended cut. However, a new allegation on May 11 suggests that a different villain from Apokolips will be coming in Justice League Part One. But that doesn’t appear to be the case, as a new rumor has emerged saying it will be someone else and we may have already seen him. Instead, according to Birth Movies Death, the main bad guy will be Steppenwolf. Death., the villain could be Steppenwolf. In the comics, he leads the military of Apokolips. Though he is a weapons master, Steppenwolf is best recognized by his signature axe. The Monday after it opened, Warner Bros. surprised fans by releasing a deleted scene from the movie, featuring Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), which many assumed would help set up the Justice League movie. The weird character Lex Luthor sees? That honor goes to Steppenwolf, a relative of Darkseid who has a very contentious relationship with the supreme being. According to a new rumor, however, this might not be the case.

It should be noted that Faraci’s track record with “scoops” and “rumours” hasn’t always panned out so for now take this information with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made by Zack Snyder and WB. Zack Snyder, WB, or anyone else involved, including the newly named executive producer Ben Affleck, have yet to comment or confirm the rumor. Additionally, “The other DC solo movies between Justice League and Justice League 2 take place in realish time – ie, The Flash takes place after Justice League – so whatever evil plan Darkseid has will wait until Justice League 2 to be revealed”. In the New 52 comics, Steppenwolf decides to invade Earth, which will require the full firepower of the new Justice League as well as bringing a certain Man of Steel back from the grave. Previous iterations show the character to be a bit of a board.
