The Official Christmas Number 1 is a coveted top spot in the British music world but in an unlikely move, Canadian pop star Justin Bieber sabotaged his own chance at the title.

He tweeted that he wanted fans to “do the right thing” and boost the choir’s single to the top of the charts.
When the choir was trailing behind Bieber’s Love Yourself, Beiber had tweeted: “I’m hearing this UK Christmas race is close… but @Choir_NHS single is for charity”.
There were scenes of joy as The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir’s A Bridge Over You was announced as the official chart topper.
In the end, the NHS Choir achieved 127,000 sales, while Bieber’s Love Yourself had sales and streams equivalent to 97,000 copies.

“So for 1 week it’s ok not to be #1”, Bieber tweeted.
Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company said: ” What a fantastic result for the NHS Choir to claim the 2015 Christmas Number 1.
Bieber congratulated the group when he heard the news.
The moving song is a mash-up of the famous classic smash hits, A Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel and Coldplay’s Fix You.
And there were still plenty of gifts under the tree for Justin Bieber – he still holds three of the UK’s top five spots.
Their main intention was to raise as much money as possible for health charities including Carers UK and Mind – and to highlight their healthcare colleagues’ sterling work. According to the Daily Mail, the contenders had been neck-and-neck all week, with just 622 sales between them on Christmas Eve, but a late surge put A Bridge Over You at No. 1.
Bieber’s Love Yourself remains the no. 1 song in Australia, but is no. 4 in the US. “There couldn’t be a more deserving group of winners”.
The singer has scored the biggest selling album of Christmas week for 2015 with 25.
