“It’s just ridiculous that it’s the NHS versus Justin Bieber, but that’s all in the jolliness of it”, she said.
Despite a somewhat lacklustre Christmas Number One race this year, sales and streams of the charity song “A Bridge Over You” have been incredibly close to Bieber’s single “Love Yourself” all week, with the NHS Choir initially ahead, but then the Biebster taking the lead. “I’m hearing this UK Christmas race is close”, the Canadian singer wrote.
A Bridge Over You was a mix of Simon & Garfunkel’s A Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You, and was described by the choir as “an emotional celebration of the thousands of NHS staff who go the extra mile every day”. [NHS Choir, ] good luck…This is what it’s all about.
The NHS Choir responded by thanking Bieber for his generosity, calling it a “superb gesture”.
All week the Top 2 singles have been switching places, and Bieber has urged his fans to pledge their allegiances with the NHS Choir’s “A Bridge Over You” – for this week at least.
He also posted a link to the single download.
The NHS single will raise money for charities such as “Carers U.K.” and “Mind” in support of the incredible work done by doctors, nurses, midwives, and many more within the National Health Service, which is the free system of health care in Britain.
It is not yet clear who will get the number one as the official chart won’t be released until Friday (25 December).
In recent times, the X Factor victor has dominated the race for the top-selling single, but this year Louisa Johnson’s Forever Young is unlikely to even make the top three.

Sales will continue to be counted until midnight on Christmas Eve, with the result announced by 1pm on Christmas Day.
