Justin Rose makes the first hole-in-one in Olympics golf history
RIO DE JANEIRO-Britain’s Justin Rose celebrated golf’s return to the Olympics after more than century in spectacular style on Thursday, scoring its first hole in one. The ace came from 189 yards (7-iron) and was one of just two eagles carded on the day (Sergio Garcia, par-5 18th).

“It was one of those hole-in-ones that I was probably aiming just right of the pin and it was a lovely golf shot, landed on line and went in”.
Even more important, Rose has a lot of rounds to buy once his day is completed.
Evidently, Rose is highly invested in the Olympics as an event and golf’s place in it.
“This is competition at the highest level and that’s what I live for. These guys are up for it, which is wonderful to see”.
Marcus Fraser of Australia, who produced some superb golf on the Gil Hanse designed course carved into the Marapendi Nature Reserve.
Adilson da Silva, the only Brazilian in the field, was given the honour of striking the opening tee shot.
“It’s something I’ll really look back on later in life and really appreciate”, he said. Those were the days before scorecards, when golfers had to record the score on parchment with their own blood-before the great technological advancement of miniature pencils.

“My kids can say their dad is an Olympian and that was a big part of wanting to do it, for them”.
