Justin Timberlake evokes BET Awards remarks, Ali in Teen Choice Awards speech

Ten teens affected by deadly US shootings lined the Teen Choice Awards stage Sunday night during an emotional tribute to gun violence victims. “I’m talking about Aurora, Baton Rouge, Dallas, Minneapolis, Orlando, San Bernardino, Newtown”, Alba said, fighting back tears as she referenced highly-publicized shootings that have taken place in the U.S.

Fans of Christina Grimmie have criticised the Teen Choice Awards for not mentioning or paying tribute to the late singer, despite her winning her first award.

The 22-year-old was shot dead in front of terrified fans as she signed autographs after a show in Orlando, Florida, in June. Grimmie fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, with one stating: “christina grimmie, a victim of gun violence, did not get one mention at the TCAs after being exploited for views and tweets”.

Christina was posthumously feted with the Choice Web Star: Music accolade at the Teen Choice Awards, but the category was not televised and she was not mentioned during the broadcast, which reportedly upset her relatives. “She deserves better than that [sic]”.

Now, fans have accused the TCA of using Grimmie’s name and likeness for promotional purposes with no intent of honoring her on the show itself.

“I’m glad the tcas didn’t do a memorial for Christina Grimmie”.

Following the snub, fans started a petition against Fox titled, “Request Teen Choice Awards & Fox formally apologize for disrespecting Christina Grimmie”. “I don’t want her attractive face anywhere near that trash show”, added YouTube star Shane Dawson. “Now, more than ever, we need to stop, feel and ask, ‘What’s going on?'” But with so much focus on ending gun violence, many questioned how FOX could’ve left Grimmie out of the award show after her death to gunman Kevin Loibl took over headlines less than two months ago.
