The Liberal leader spent the last day of the campaign, and the anniversary of his father’s birthday, appealing to the deepest blue pockets of the country: conservative Alberta and nationalist Quebec.
The senior Trudeau became anathema in the city for his Liberal government’s imposition of the National Energy Program, among other policies.
“I’m not big into politics, but Trudeau’s turned me…to come out to something like this, which I’ve never done before”, said Shannon Van de Keere, who drove 30 minutes across Winnipeg and stood outside in 4C temperatures for an hour in hope of getting into one of his rallies.
He adds “I’m saying it here, in Alberta, that Albertans and all Canadians need us Quebecers”.
“I feel very good, we ran a great campaign, we worked very hard, I talked to a lot of voters with Calgary Centre and our message is resonating”, said Calgary-Centre Liberal candidate Kent Hehr. It is time to unite Quebecers, Albertans, Canadians.
The ad released at 2:20PM EDT pokes fun at Tom Mulcair and Stephen Harper.
The Liberal Leader emphasized during his speech that his platform includes an increase in infrastructure spending, to be funded by going into deficit for three years, stating “the time to invest in Alberta is now”. “Tomorrow, British Columbians can decided whether Canada gets real change or more of the same”.
Mr. Trudeau, who has been drawing large crowds across the country in the last days of the campaign, addressed the matter head on at a morning rally in Edmonton.
Trudeau is also scheduled to attend rallies later Sunday in Calgary, Surrey, B.C., and North Vancouver, B.C.
Liberal supporter Sheila Genaille waited amid a group of supporters in Edmonton who crowded around Trudeau’s bus, hoping for a chance to shake his hand as he left the venue following his speech.
Trudeau said after almost a decade of Conservative rule around our province and the country, he believes Albertans are ready for change.
