Mirim Lee saw her advantage atop the Ricoh British Women’s Open slashed to a single shot, despite carding a one under par 71 in her second round at Woburn. Jutanugarn took the Women’. More than one former champion has wondered if, by not testing their entire games, the setup is not allowing the best women golfers in the world to show off all their skills. While this is the first time Jutanugarn will sleep on the lead in a major, she successfully managed her nerves when holding the 54-hole lead in each of her three victories during the month of May.
“I like this style so much”, Jutanugarn said about the course. I know how to come back. I know how to be like patient. “Everybody is going to have bad times in their life and I think I have had that already”, added Ariya.
Playing partner Lee Mi-rim of South Korea (73) and American Mo Martin (70) shared second place while Stacy Lewis of the USA also carded a 70 to take fourth spot on 277.
“It’s in my locker”.
She hoped to be smiling late Sunday.
“I think everything in the past is good for me, because I learned a lot from that”, said Jutanugarn. “I felt a little bit nervous but after that hole I didn’t feel like that”. After that hole I was a bit nervous but I tried to commit to every shot and not to worry about anything else.
The PGA Championship was halted because of thunderstorms Saturday, raising the possibility of a second straight Monday finish in a major championship at Baltusrol.
Matthew was generous of her praise of an opponent whose game fell apart after she suffered a serious shoulder problem as a result of a freak accident while trying to soak her sister and fellow professional Moriya with a water bottle a couple of seasons ago, but returned in spectacular fashion earlier this year when she became the first Thai woman to win in America, then won the next two as well in earning herself the new nickname of May, having been the only victor on the LPGA Tour that month. “I just need to move up four places”.
Jutanugarn had a six-stroke lead over Lee at the turn, but Lee picked up five strokes on the next four holes with three straight birdies and Jutanugarn’s double bogey on the 13.
I think I got mad after that hole, Jutanugarn said. “Like, especially today, because I didn’t hit my iron good, but I still make some birdies”.
Jutanugarn bounced back quickly though with a birdie at the 17th before sealing her victory with a par at the 18th. Jutanugarn closed with a par, and Lee made a bogey for a 73.
Feng claims she didn’t know Lee shot a 62 in Thursday’s first round. “So one more day, I want to have fun”.
Martin won the 2014 tournament at Royal Birkdale.
That was my heart and my soul out there, Martin said. “That’s all I had. I gave it everything I could”.
The 41-year-old has been in vintage form all week at a venue where she says she is comfortable. I’m looking forward to playing at the Olympics in Rio. I cant wait. Im really excited about that.. The 20-year-old ended up returning a 75 for 214.
