K Crosby to avoid free agency, head back to Packers

The Green Bay Packers and kicker Mason Crosby have agreed to a new four-year deal, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Crosby became the Packers’ all-time leading scorer a year ago, passing Ryan Longwell in the Week 2 win over Seattle and eventually finishing the season with 1,145 points.

The New England Patriots’ Stephen Gostowski signed a four-year deal last summer worth just over $17 million, with $10 million guaranteed.

The Packers are keeping their kicker. He has hit 79.7 percent of his field-goal attempts with a career-long of 58 yards.

Crosby’s agent, Mike McCartney, confirmed the deal on Twitter.

In 2010, Crosby signed a five-year, 14.75 million extension, but in 2012, he made only 63.6 percent of his field goals, resulting in his contract being renegotiated. In fact, he was in danger of losing his job just four years ago. He also set the National Football League post-season record by making 20 consecutive field goals with his two makes against the Arizona Cardinals in the Packers’ divisional playoff loss.

The kicker’s time in Green Bay has not always been smooth sailing.
