Kaaya leads No. 25 Miami over Appalachian State 45-10

Brad Kaaya threw three touchdown passes as No. 25 Miami rode a strong start to a 45-10 victory against host Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Appalachian State almost knocked off Tennessee in its opener, and got its first win last week.

Clemson, which slipped to No. 5 in the most recent Associated Press poll following a close win against Troy, left nothing to chance against the FCS Bulldogs, scoring early and often in improving to 3-0. Miami has played countless high-profile games in hostile environments, but Appalachian will have a regular-season home contest air on the primary ESPN channel for the first time since 1979, when it participated in the second college football game ever shown live on the network.

The Cavalier’s blew a 10-0 first-half lead and fell to CT at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Conn.

Offensively, Miami football is averaging 277.1 yards in passing and 119.9 in rushing. Then star running back Marcus Cox suffered a leg injury.

Mack’s 52-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-1 play from the Bulls’ 48-yard line late in the third quarter broke open a tight game and propelled American Athletic Conference member South Florida to a romp over the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Syracuse Orange before 32,288 fans at the Carrier Dome. Hood rushed for 106 yards on 18 carries.

Backfield blocker Barrett Burns eventually joined the two linemen, who pushed Vickers from the right hash mark at the 17-yard line into a sideline marking for the 22, driving him into linebacker Daniel Bituli along the way. “And we’re like, ‘Yeah, we’ve got two games before that.'”. We came out in the third quarter and did really well.

Cox has seven carries for 30 yards. David Njoku led in receiving with 49 yards in 2 catches while Stacy Coley had 38 yards in 4 receptions.

The Cowboys improved to 2-1, while Pitt fell to 2-1. App State obliterated C-USA’s Old Dominion the next week, 31-7. Defensively, Miami football is yielding 103.8 yards in passing and 201.3 in rushing against the opposing teams.

Brad Kaaya and the Canes threw most of their passes out to the flats on wide receiver screens, giving the Mountaineers difficulty all day. J.P. Caruso had 19 yards and a touchdown. The first of those helped the Wolfpack to a 21-3 halftime lead. We haven’t had many penalties the first two weeks, but today, they cost us big time.

The Hurricanes’ defense was tremendous, continuing to give the opposing quarterback fits, as it has been doing since the season started. We got the interception by Law and then scored to make it a two possession game. He was sacked three times.

MIAMI: Walton came in with back-to-back 100-yard games and needed only three carries to go over that mark against the Mountaineers. Miami’s offense totaled over 500 yards of offense while holding App State to just 241 yards.

KICKING CONCERN: Miami’s Michael Badgley is 1-for-3 on field goals this season, and the two he’s missed — one was blocked — were both from relative chip-shot distance.
