Kabali opens to mixed reviews
This came after the film’s producer earlier claimed Kabali had collected Rs 100 crore on first day.

How have trade experts arrived at this figure? Rajinikanth’s “Kabali” was registered the highest viewership for an Indian film premiere.
Enthiran’s performance stoked global ambitions for the Tamil film industry, which is popularly known as Kollywood after the Kodambakkam district of Chennai, where many film studios are based. One day a movie director spotted him on stage, which led to his first role, playing an abusive husband, in 1975.
Many private firms gave their employees a day off and parents kept children home from school in Tamil Nadu state for the movie’s release Friday.
Then, its running time of two-and-a-half-hours allowed theatre owners to hold greater number of shows.
Not stopping here, the producer also said that Kabali released in almost 10,000 screens, while the actual truth is that the film was released in only 4,500 screens across the world.
Distributor Akshaye Rathi says “Kabali” is doing phenomenally well in the south.
The film’s satellite version has already made Rs.200 crore before its release and is now expected to earm anywhere between Rs.400 to Rs.500 in box office collections worldwide.
Thereafter, the festivities started for the inaugural show with a huge procession of fans beating drums, singing and dancing upto the theatre for the much-coveted “first day, first show”.
Add this to the North America earnings, and you have Rs 50+ crores.
In some places, fans complained of lack of availability of tickets as they were bulk-booked by individuals and companies well in advance but there was an overall mood of joy outside the theatres that screened the multi-crore film produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu. The movie starring Indian actor Rajinikanth opens worldwide tomorrow, July 22.
“I have been putting up posters for my one and only star”, said a labourer as he imitated some trademark moves of his favourite actor.
