Kabul suicide bomb kills 12 including three US contractors
On August 7, a Taliban attack on a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation military base near Kabul’s global airport killed an American soldier and eight Afghan contractors. They were contractors of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, according to an e-mailed statement.

The blast took place in the center of Kabul, the latest in a series of major bombings in recent weeks, but there was no immediate word on who was responsible.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, which struck outside a civilian hospital as Taliban insurgents escalate their annual summer offensive against the US-backed Afghan government. At least one of those killed is a foreigner.
At least 12 people were killed and 66 others wounded in a suicide attack in Afghanistan’s capital Saturday, the spokesman for Kabul’s police chief said. It wasn’t clear how many armored cars were in the convoy; typically there are at least two, and often three, because of heightened security concerns in the capital.
The Taliban is fighting to overthrow the foreign-backed government, expel foreign forces from Afghanistan and impose a strict interpretation of Islamic law.
“The last few days have shown that suicide-bomber training camps and bomb-producing factories that are killing our people are as active as before in Pakistan”, Ghani said.
Xinhua reporter at the site of the deadly bombing saw that women and children are also among the casualties.
The Guardian writes: “The bomb damaged a number of buildings, with the Shinozada private hospital worst hit”.

“One Resolute Support contracted civilian was killed in an attack in Kabul at around 4:20 pm [1150GMT] today, two other contracted died of the wounds later”, Tribus said in an email.
