Three observations from the Seahawks’ 20-3 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night in Santa Clara, Calif.
The difference Thursday was the Niners had no chance to mount a comeback – in part because of San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s ineffectiveness and in part because of a swarming, unrelenting pass rush from the Seahawks. Lineman Michael Bennett had 3.5 sacks all his own, and created constant pressure.
Kaepernick has never lost to any team more than the Seahawks, and the only others he’s lost twice to are the Giants, Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams. For Kaepernick, he was mired in a night of 13-for-24 for 124 yards, this all while being sacked six times.
Postgame, Colin Kaepernick told reporters that the 49ers didn’t match Seattle’s intensity.
Lynch punished the 49ers defense all night, carrying the ball more than 25 times for well over 100 yards.
Jimmy Graham’s production (2 catches, 31 yards) was down from last week’s monster game of 8-140 but he still tied for the team lead in targets with five and had a third catch jarred loose on a big hit. For example, it makes no sense to have someone like Reggie Bush on the team, a 30-year-old running back who is often injured and even when he is healthy doesn’t help you that much.
