Kaine brings steady hand, confidence to Clinton ticket

But Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, says that Trump’s penchant for nasty name-calling is something most people have matured beyond at “about fifth grade”.

However, Larry Cohen, an adviser to the Sanders campaign and a former president of the Communications Workers of America, said of Mr. Kaine, “People are minimizing the range of this man by putting him in some box I would argue he doesn’t belong”.

She was asked what name she would call Trump in response to his repeatedly referring to her as “Crooked Hillary”.

Still, Sanders said that “on his worst, worst, worst day, Tim Kaine is 100 times better than Donald Trump will ever be”.

“Brothers and sisters, this is the real world that we live in”, Sanders told his audience, raising his hand in an effort to quiet them.

Before it’s here, it’s on the Bloomberg Terminal. “There’s no question in my mind, and no question in any objective observer’s mind, that the DNC was supporting Hillary Clinton and was in opposition to our campaign”.

“The most important consideration is his ability to step in as president, and he clearly has the experience, knowledge, intelligence and temperament to do that”, said Jocelyn Bucaro, a convention delegate from OH who supports Clinton.

However, Kaine would not have been No. 1 on Clinton’s veep shortlist for the Vermont senator, who had a fellow New Englander in mind. “We will talk, work, and listen to you 24-7,”‘ she said.

To Clinton, Kaine’s deep background in politics made him the ideal choice to take the presidential reins if needed.

“I have no doubt that she is the leader we need at this time to keep our country safe, and I trust her with that most sacred responsibility of commander in chief”, he said.

During the interview, Clinton appeared to put a new spin on a grievance her campaign has regularly raised throughout the campaign: “I often feel like there’s “the Hillary Standard” and then there’s the standard for everybody else”, she said.

The tour, which will be Clinton and Kaine’s first major campaign swing together, will focus on jobs. Solomon suggested actions such as staying seated or turning backs when Kaine takes the stage, but said his team was looking into procedural options to protest the Virginia senator in a more formal way as well.

Though Warren and Sanders were both notably silent Friday night following the Kaine announcement as many other Democrats and progressive groups applauded the pick, both have since spoken favorably of the senator. She said Kaine responded early Sunday morning accepting the invitation.

Kaine is a staunch supporter of the Trans Pacific Partnership, a hated trade deal that was opposed by Sanders and Donald Trump, and became a major issue in this year’s presidential race.

“He’s going to look out for his people like he does now”, the 75-year-old said.

Linda Groverman, 62, of Blue Bell, said she’d vote for Clinton, but quickly noted the former secretary of state was far from her first choice. And like Trump, negative views of Clinton run deep, even among some supporters.
