Kaine Joins Bid to Quell Clinton Email Controversy

“I was pointing out … that [FBI] Director [James] Comey had said that my answers in my FBI interview were truthful”.

Senator Tim Kaine, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, defended Hillary Clinton on her emails today and promised that they’re doing everything they can to be transparent. “I can speak about what she said to the Federal Bureau of Investigation”.

“It shows clips of her speaking to a group of Hispanic and black journalists on Friday”.

Over the past week, she cited Comey’s public comments from last month to demonstrate she was truthful about her private email use and had not put at risk classified information in the messages she sent and received. “I am not presumptuous enough to start thinking about how I’m going to do things after November”.

Hillary Clinton acknowledged Friday the challenge she’d face leading a country where most Americans don’t trust her, saying she takes “seriously” the work she must do to build confidence in her character.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump publicly questioned Hillary Clinton’s mental state over the weekend.

“He is harkening back to the most shameful chapters of our history and appealing to the ugliest impulses of our society”, she said. “He retweets white nationalists”. Contrary to the narrative spun by the Trump campaign, Clinton did not say she herself “short-circuited”.

“She said it was a mistake”, Kaine said.

Kaine pledged that he and Clinton were going to be “real transparent” going forward. Attempting to neutralize her attacks against his character and qualifications, Trump has sought to undermine her decision-making skills while painting her as an out-of-touch member of the Washington political establishment.

Clinton’s comments about her email use have shifted over time.

And on Saturday, he tweeted, “Anybody whose mind “SHORT CIRCUITS” is not fit to be our president! Look up the word ‘BRAINWASHED, ‘” he wrote on Twitter. “If I misspoke”, she eventually said, “that was just a misstatement”. And we got hostages home. “She said, ‘there was no classified material'”.

However, Kaine said it was “absolutely not” a ransom payment, noting that the money was part of a settlement of a decades-old dispute over seized Iranian assets. “America is better than Donald Trump”. But he has also questioned the accuracy of some of the public statements she’s made about the issue. Although she occasionally holds informal sessions with the news media on campaign stops, Clinton aides have spent months explaining why she hasn’t held an official news conference, as most candidates, particularly Trump, do regularly. The last such huddle was on July 31 in Ashland, Ohio. That’s clearly the case with Hillary Clinton. Questions that he and Clinton will continue to face, especially since the former Secretary of State seems to raise more questions every time she gives an answer on the topic. The growing frustration among reporters and the criticism about the lack of accessibility has irked some Clinton’s campaign officials.
