The wife of one of the two RAF airmen killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan has told of her heartbreak.

‘His lasting legacy will be the professionalism and courage he passed onto all who flew with him’.

Five other Resolute Support personnel were also injured in the incident.

A friend of the family created a GoFundMe account for Kuhse’s family.

Defence secretary Michael Fallon expressed his “deepest sympathies”.

An Air Force Academy spokesman said the crash happened Sunday and was not related to any hostile activity. “It seemed like the cable was turned around the helicopter rotor”, said Najibullah, who goes by one name.

The statement added that the incident resulted in the deaths of two British personnel, two USA service members and a French contracted civilian. The military says the mission is a “follow-on” to Operation Enduring Freedom, the Afghanistan combat compromise undertaken in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Capt Thomas Clarke, WO2 Spencer Faulkner and Cpl James Walters of the Army Air Corps died alongside Flt Lt Rakesh Chauhan of the Royal Air Force and L/Cpl Oliver Thomas of the Intelligence Corps.

Resolute Support is a Nato-led mission to train and assist Afghan security forces and institutions, following the stand-down of the global Security Assistance Force (Isaf) past year.

The MoD said the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device and there were no British casualties.
