Kalamazoo sheriff’s office: Shooting suspect’s lawsuit against Uber a hoax

Matyas says he became suspicious Wednesday night when he saw news reports about the handwritten lawsuit sent to the federal court. Matyas says Dalton, who is jailed, denied filing the lawsuit and that the handwriting doesn’t match Dalton’s.

Dalton, a former driver for Uber, is accused of going on a deadly shooting rampage that left six people dead and injured two.

The man in question is Jason Dalton, and in his handwritten federal civil rights lawsuit, he claimed that the ride-sharing company is responsible for him being in prison. In an interview with detectives, Dalton allegedly said the auto service turned him into “a puppet” and that “he could only tell us that (the app) has the ability to take you over”. He is charged with shooting people at three different locations in the area and was arrested by a Kalamazoo County sheriff’s deputy shortly after midnight on February 21.

Dalton’s court appointed attorney, Eusebio Solis of Battle Creek, told the Enquirer again Thursday he had no knowledge of the suit.

A lawsuit against Uber that was reported widely to have been filed by mass murder suspect Jason Dalton is a hoax.

Before the complaint was revealed to be fake, Uber responded to the suit in a statement, saying Dalton refuses to take responsibility for his own actions. He also claimed that he “busted his butt” for the company and that they did not pay a Christmas bonus.

The complainant claims that Uber failed to show any concern for his mental health and that he is in prison as a result.

“Uber doesn’t care about its drivers”. “He said he didn’t send it, didn’t authorize it, doesn’t know who did”. “Our hearts go out to victims’ families who have to live with the consequences of his awful crimes”.

“We went and talked to [Dalton]”, said Matyas.

He said he “recognized the Uber symbol as being that of the Eastern Star and a devil head popped up on his screen and when he pressed the button on the app, that is when all the problems started”, police in wrote in a report.
