Kangaroo Roams Loose on Staten Island
After a reported 10 to 15 minutes of blissful Staten Island freedom, Buster was apprehended by police.

An adventurous kangaroo has caused quite the stir in the United States, after making a run for it on the busy streets of New York.
Well, here is something you don’t see everyday in New York City. “We didn’t know what it was”. “It looks like it’s legal to possess a kangaroo where this man is from”, a police source told the Daily News, though the ASPCA was notified.
At first he thought it was a deer – occasionally small deer make their way to his shop, which straddles the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge – but then Buster stood up.
A 1 1/2-year-old kangaroo, brought by its upstate owner to Staten Island Friday night, escaped from a home on Victory Boulevard in Travis Saturday morning, police said. When it came closer, we saw it was a kangaroo.
Officers responding to the call found the owner nearby, who said Buster had ~busted out~ of his friend’s backyard after the gate was accidentally left open.
They’re probably just thankful Buster was caught before he had the opportunity to spread any wild non-native animals around.

No charges were filed and Buster remains in his owner’s custody. “Since he was visiting the area and was returning home today, there was no violation”. “We didn’t want to scare him”, Osmani said.
