Kanhaiya Kumar to campaign for Left in upcoming assembly polls

Kumar was arrested on February 12 in connection with the February 9 event organised to protest the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on his third death anniversary during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.

“They are all studying at a central university, where public money, people’s money is involved, so they must do justice to the cause and they must study, that’s all”, the minister and senior BJP leader said.

Earlier, the government had warned Kanhaiya after his release that he must help the concerned authorities to see that activities similar to the February 9 event are curbed in the university rather than enjoying the publicity. Whenever there have been attempts to suppress democratic voices, JNU stands up and tells that JNU thinks today, while the society thinks tomorrow.

Thursday night, he addressed fellow JNU students and in a spirited speech, which drew appreciation and derision equally on social media, said he wanted “azaadi” within India and not from India.

Kumar came to the JNU campus after meeting some leaders at the CPI office, according to Times of India.

Targeting the government, Kumar said, We will like to expose the conspiracy of those who act against the Constitution.

“We want freedom, not from India, but within India – from poverty, inequality and exploitation”, he said when asked about his definition of freedom.

“I am happy to present first copy of the book to first citizen of the State”, Sinha said on presenting book to the Governor. Sharma said that Kanhaiya had attacked “our motherland” in his speech and that it was “unacceptable”.

Arrested on charges of sedition last month, Mr Kumar was released from Tihar jail this evening amid high security and celebrations by supporters in New Delhi. “We want azadi from capitalism, from brahminism, from casteism, this is the kind of azadi that we want”.

“I consider this as a kind of infection from which such students are suffering which needs to be controlled/cured before it becomes an epidemic”.

“When I spent time in jail, I realised that the constable who was taking me for medical tests, for food, they are also people like me”. He also spoke on other topics and picked on various institutions such as ABVP, TV channels and the Delhi Police and politicians including Narendra Modi.
