The slain officer has been identified as Capt. Robert Melton, officials said.

The officer, reportedly Captain Dave Melton, suffered life-threatening wounds and later died, according to Associated Press. He said it was painful to sit in that room and see the grief-stricken faces.

Melton was alone when he was shot, Tomsaic said. Spokesman John Ham said the ATF will provide help with ballistics if required, but are now assisting with the investigation.

Court documents also show investigators obtained surveillance camera video showing fielder and Ewonus together at several locations, including the hotel.

The caller said multiple people were shooting at him from a vehicle. A suspect in Melton’s shooting was taken into custody.

When asked if Melton was alone, Tomasic said, “He was alone at the time”.

Police had been looking for a fourth suspect, but there was some indication that the person was not involved, Tomasic said.
