Kansas City Royals beat New York Mets in epic first game

After an epic World Series classic Game One, the New York Mets will try to recover from a heartbreaking defeat to the Kansas City Royals as Game Two streams live online with a pitching matchup to watch closely as the 2015 Series, the 111th since 1903, shapes up to become one of the best ever.

It’s not just the strikeouts though, deGrom 0.98 Walks plus Hits per Inning pitched (WHIP) suggests that he rarely allows base runners, and not many teams in the Major League Baseball are better than the Royals at getting on base.

Johnny Cueto is happy at home, and that’s where he’ll pitch in the World Series. That inning would be trouble for the Mets’ ace: The Royals would score twice to tie the game at three.

This could be a good one. As they entered their second World Series in a row, it was hard to not see them as the favorite. “Two scrappy teams going back and forth”. Instead, they opted to make a little history, tying the mark for the longest World Series run in postseason history.

At least in Eastern Daylight Time it did. “Toronto is not here in the World Series and now it’s time to play baseball”.

Or fans in Detroit if the Tigers aren’t in it.

Game 1 featured a sad development.

It must create a buzz.

Mets fans haven’t had it too easy.

If that sounds more like a movie review, so be it – and all the more appropriate because the opener was good theater.

Buck, during the broadcast, explained why Volquez wasn’t immediately told of his father’s death and why Fox didn’t say anything about it until late in the game.

The Royals used a combination of Luke Hochevar, Wade Davis, Ryan Madson and Chris Young (combined for 6 IP, 2 H, 9 K) while the Mets beckoned two veteran starters – Jon Niese and Bartolo Colon – to attempt a comeback in extras.

Matt Harvey allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings and was pretty much dead even with Volquez, who surrendered three earned runs on six hits and a walk in six innings.

This is the time of the game when the Royals normally go for the kill but this time Cain, who has never had a sacrifice bunt in his career, decided this was the time to try it, unknown to his manager.

“I think Eddie (also felt that way) tonight”. “And the family said, ‘We don’t want you to tell him”. He made his scheduled start the next day and threw five innings without giving up a hit before joining his family in Texas after the game.

A memorable performance, to be sure.

Royals Game 1 starter Edinson Volquez throws a pitch in the first inning of Game 1 of the World Series against the Mets Tuesday night. How wild? How about an inside-the-park home run to start things off?

In the 14th, Alcides Escobar hit a sharp grounder to Wright to begin the inning, and Wright said he got caught on an in-between hop. The ball hopped over his glove and into right field as Lagares came around third to score the go-ahead run.

“The on-field delay was due to replay capability being lost in both team’s clubhouses”, Fox said. But as the game went on, there were conflicting reports about whether he’d been told the news before his start.
