Kansas Democrats: Backing Sanders, seeking unity for Clinton
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not have a significant speaking role at the party’s convention or preside over it, CNN reports.

The decision was reportedly made on Saturday, one day after Wikileaks published almost 20,000 internal DNC emails, several of which suggest the DNC supported Clinton over Sanders and even took actions to derail the Sanders campaign.
“I knew that there was corruption, but the level of corruption throughout the political system is overwhelming”, Carson said Sunday on Fox News.
The Democratic convention “gavels in” at 4:00 pm (2000 GMT) Monday in Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, with First Lady Michelle Obama and Clinton’s former rival in the primaries, Senator Bernie Sanders, scheduled as the headliners. “And that is why many, many months ago, I made it clear that I thought Debbie Wasserman Schultz should resign, should step down, not only because of the prejudice I think they showed during the campaign, but also because I think we need a new leadership of the Democratic Party”.
Weaver said Schultz, accused throughout the campaign of betraying a neutral role by operating on behalf of Hillary Clinton campaign, deserves specific scrutiny – especially as the contents of the leaked emails “reinforce” that the party had put “its fingers on the scale” during the hard fought primary process. “Robby Mook said on CNN’s ‘State of the Union” that “Russian state actors” may have hacked into DNC computers “for the goal of helping Donald Trump”.
Thousands of demonstrators are taking to Philadelphia’s sweltering streets Sunday, chanting and beating drums in the first major protests ahead of the Democratic National Convention, as the city wilts during a heat wave. The Democratic National Convention starts Monday in Philadelphia. Bernie Sanders supporters expect about 3,000 protesters will join them in a march from City Hall to a park near the convention site in the afternoon.
The emails include several stinging denunciations of Sanders and his organization before and after the DNC briefly shut off his campaign’s access to the party’s key list of likely Democratic voters.
The Florida congresswoman has come under withering scrutiny in the middle of a growing controversy over a trove of hacked emails exposed by Wikileaks.
“People. are concerned about all the challenges that our country faces, both domestically and overseas, and are looking for a strong, steady hand to guide us through some tumultuous times”, Kennedy said.
The emails were leaked from the accounts of seven DNC officials, Wikileaks said. Top DNC officials mocked Sanders during the primary race, and at least one email exchange showed officials considered using Sanders’ religious beliefs as a way to hurt his campaign, according to the New York Times. Although Sanders stopped campaigning and said he would support Clinton, some of his diehard supporters are not rallying around Clinton just yet. Miranda spurned the idea, although he agreed with Paustenbach’s take: “True, but the Chair has been advised not to engage”.
This year’s convention is the earliest since the 2004 Boston convention, which was also held in July.

The same month, in another email to DNC officials, another official said of Sanders: “Does he believe in a God”. He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage. “But if they think on it, they’ll realize that if I don’t participate on her behalf, then I’m helping Donald Trump, so I think there eventually will be unity, but it may not be completely done by the end of the convention”.
