At least one and possible two suspects have been taken into custody, and it’s unclear whether there were three or four suspects that was a part of the two shootings, or if there even really was a drive-by shooting at the initial location.

Local station KMBC reports a crying friend of Melton said, “This violence has got to stop”.
Ham also called it a “large crime scene”.
Across town at the shooting scene, Susan Goble sobbed inconsolably after placing a small wreath at the spot where Melton was shot.
He says three or four suspects jumped out of the auto after police arrived at the scene.
Local media said Police Captain Robert David Melton, 46, was shot multiple times in his patrol vehicle by a suspect who jumped out of his auto. The Tribune reports that he was shot while still in his vehicle.
Police continue to search for the other suspects. “I ask all Kansans to take a moment to honor the service of Capt. Melton and all officers across our state and across the nation”.
A resident at the Juniper Gardens apartment complex (pictured, Second Street and Edgerton Drive) called police at 1.33pm reporting that a vehicle full of people opened fire.
Melton was rushed to the University of Kansas Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
“You know all these officers that are being shot and killed when they are on the line protecting us and it’s not right”, she said. Investigators say the first officers on scene found the auto from which shots were fired and several people had jumped out of it.
The suspected gunman that killed three officers and injured three more, Gavin Long, speaks on Youtube about racial oppression, protesting, and more.
“It’s hard. It’s very hard right now”, said Tom Tomasic of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
After Lancaster was shot, Ayers allegedly fled in the detective’s unmarked police vehicle.
Melton’s death is the second KCKPD officer in a little over two months.
He had served as captain of the Kansas City, KS Police Department since May 2015.
KCTV5 is reporting that the shooting happened after officers responded to the report of an armed disturbance about 1:30 p.m. An officer took a suspect into custody at 1:39 p.m.
