Kansas police officer murder ‘not a planned ambush’

Zeigler, choking back emotions as he spoke, said Melton was a high-ranking supervisor, not a beat cop, but liked to be on the street to support his officers. His funeral is Saturday morning at Children’s Mercy Park.

Melton was honored Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, with a moment of silence before before the Royals game against Cleveland.

“Captain Melton served his state and nation honorably for over 26 years and for this we are forever grateful”.

Melton was shot and killed Tuesday when he was responding to a police call. Police say several suspects were taken into custody.

“We have come too far, because of the relations with our police and community”, said Holland. He also wanted everyone to remember Officer Brad Lancaster who died May 9th near Kansas Speedway. An officer took a suspect into custody at 1:39 p.m. According to his LinkedIn profile, he had also served in the Kansas Army National Guard and was deployed to Afghanistan from September 2010 to March 2012.

“This crime does not fit the national narrative of planned attacks against law enforcement officers”.

Melton was a 17-year veteran of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Wagle said the Democratic president has painted law enforcement officers as “people of bias”.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback released the following statement Tuesday evening. He was 46 years old. “His philosophy was lead from the front, and he was an excellent example of the men and women that worked for him”, Zeigler said.

A Kansas City, Kansas, police officer fatally shot while responding to a gunfire report Tuesday was not ambushed, NBC News reported. “The anti-hate speech has got to stop because the consequences are real”.

This fatal shooting comes just two months after a fatal shooting involving another KCK police officer.

The ATF has sent about 20 agents to the scene of the shooting. Kathryn Courtney brought a bouquet of yellow daisies Wednesday. Courtney said she had known Melton for almost 20 years and that he was “a wonderful man with a heart of gold”. “At the time of the shooting, Capt. Melton was trying to exit his patrol vehicle to engage the suspect”. “People need to be notified before I start giving out any details on that”, police spokesman Tom Tomasic told the news station.
