Kansas State quarterback Jesse Ertz out for ‘quite some time’

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder did not disclose the nature of Ertz’s injury, but did say this week that Ertz is out indefinitely.

He is likely to miss the rest of the season.

Bill Snyder stated Monday on the Big 12 media teleconference, “Jesse’s going to be out for quite some time. We will move on”, said HC Snyder, who also admitted that “we will miss him”. He has been a wonderful individual for us, very representative of our value system, of our team and really developing as a leader. Snyder said he was confident Ertz would remain invested in what the team was doing and would helpful to all of his teammates.

Ertz left Kansas State’s first game Saturday after only two plays with a knee injury. He tried to stay in for a second play, but he needed assistance leaving the field, then was taken via cart to the lockerroom.

Hubener didn’t speak of the injury, nor offer words of encouragement. Ertz has a history of knee problems. Ertz previously suffered a torn ACL as a high school senior. Schadler is a redshirt freshman for the Jayhawks this season. He grimaced in pain as his teammates looked on, their season already having hit a speed bump just minutes into the opener. And when Waters graduated, Hubener and Ertz became the leading candidates in a four-man race to take over the starting job. This will be his first start as a quarterback at any level.

Joe Hubener, a former walk-on, will start Saturday against Texas-San Antonio. His numbers were respectable, but may have been better if not for a couple of drops from his wide receivers. Hubener also rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore.

“I feel dramatically bad for him”, Snyder said after the game.
