Kansas State should be on upset alert vs. Louisiana Tech

Louisiana Tech quarterback and former Florida starter Jeff Driskel lived up to the hype by throwing for 314 yards and three total scores.

He came away with a rather grim appraisal. Not only have they not allowed a touchdown, the one field goal they’ve given up was a 51-yarder in the first quarter last weekend.

The Kansas State Wildcats face off with the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs today in a game on the college football schedule between one team that’s still undefeated and one team that’s almost undefeated.

“It is not about looks or pressure or guys coming from everywhere”, Holtz said. “They keep the ball in front of you”. “They have talent all around the ball”.

The Bulldogs (1-1) haven’t had much trouble with that this season.

They had three trips to the red zone, two of which ended in field goals after stalling out and a third ending in a fumble by Winston Dimel just several plays after K-State freshman linebacker Sam Sizelove stripped the ball from the Bulldogs on a kick.

Key stat: Justin Silmon ran for 58 yards in five carries during K-State’s game-tying drive. “That’s not what we would have anticipated but, like I said, the defense played it weird”.

More complex times? No doubt about it. The first game of the season starting quarterback Jesse Ertz suffered a season-ending knee injury against South Dakota and had to be replaced by Joe Hubener.

“It’s ironic, but I have to be able to throw long and short”, Hubener said.

Two wide receivers have already eclipsed the 100-yard mark for this season, while Dixon poses a threat in the pass game from the backfield. He had a career-high 243 yards passing on 12-of-23 attempts. “He’s one heck of a back”, Wildcats defensive tackle Travis Britz said. “They changed up what they were doing defensively schematically, and we had to adjust on the fly, but thought we made some plays”. The Wildcats kept stalling early, settling for Cantele field goals from 33, 38 and 20 yards out before overtime, while the Bulldogs got field goals from Barnes from 25 and 39 yards before the 45-yarder to force overtime. 3. “It was after the first game and certainly after the last game”.

Even Kansas State’s players are well aware Tech, which is just 4-16 versus Big 12 teams, poses a different challenge than the previous two weeks.

Head coach Bill Snyder may not of been thrilled about how it happen, but on Saturday, K-State fought there way through an over four hour, three overtime slog to come out on top 39-33 against Louisiana Tech. But that also means that the Bulldogs have had some extra time off to get ready for the Wildcats. “We were exhausted . There were some guys that were banged up and our bodies got some well-needed rest”. “That’s the first thing we do whenever we go into practice week, put an emphasis on stopping the run”. “I know for sure that we’re going to bounce back”.
