Kansas State tops Louisiana Tech 39-33 in 3OT

The Kansas State Wildcats have been shaky, at times over the past two weeks and could be an upset candidate against Louisiana Tech.

Kansas State would drive down on its next possession and tie the game at 13-13 with a four-yard Joe Hubener touchdown pass to Kody Cook with 13 seconds left in the third quarter.

In the first half, it seemed that nothing could go right for K-State.

“Their running back, Dixon, has half a million yards or whatever it is”, Snyder said. He is a guy that you love to have on your team.

Key play: Louisiana Tech’s Jeff Driskel faked a handoff and ran untouched into the end zone for the game’s first touchdown.

The statistics are nice but Kansas State coach Bill Snyder isn’t quite ready to crown his defense. He finished the season tying three players for the record of most games scoring a touchdown by reaching the endzone in all 14 games. “He’s one heck of a back”, Wildcats defensive tackle Travis Britz said. The junior also had a career-high 174 all-purpose yards against the Wildcats.

The Wildcats are looking to pick up their third win of the season after beating South Dakota in Week 1 and UTSA on Saturday. They gave up too many long third conversations and couldn’t consistently sustain long drives. The Wildcats kept stalling early, settling for Cantele field goals from 33, 38 and 20 yards out before overtime, while the Bulldogs got field goals from Barnes from 25 and 39 yards before the 45-yarder to force overtime. 3.

This was the first game this season that Dixon was held under 100 yards on the ground and scoreless.

“It is not about looks or pressure and guys coming from everywhere”, Holtz said. “That’s the first thing we do whenever we go into practice week, put an emphasis on stopping the run”. Louisiana Tech opened its season with a dominant win over Southern but then proceeded to lose to Western Kentucky by just three points.

WHAT’S THE FREQUENCY, KENNETH: Dixon is the nation’s eighth-leading rusher with 274 yards in two games. Driskel has been adept at spreading the ball around in the offense, and he’s still learning the system as he goes. “You can see the improvements being made”.

K-State’s offense would get the ball back soon on a fumble forced by Elijah Lee and recovered Jordan Willis. “He can get it from here to there in a heartbeat”.

That is where the craziness would end however as Louisiana Tech would be unable to convert on a 4th and 10 pass play to tie it up once again.

Where the Bulldogs might be at their toughest is along the offensive line. “We haven’t talked much about it other than the challenge we have and how good they are”.

“We’re a talented group”, Driskel said.
