No. 1 Oklahoma will take on a Kansas State team tonight 6:00PM ET that it has struggled to cover the spread against in recent meetings.
While Ryan Spangler gave the Sooners some punch inside, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds, the other forward spot was a position of misery.
Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield, who was averaging 25.8 points per game coming in, scored 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting, missing five of his eight three-point attempts. Fellow guard Jordan Woodard went 0 for 5 and failed to score, and forwards Dante Buford and Khadeem Lattin were plagued by foul trouble.
“If you don’t play well, get out-fought, you’re not going to win in the Big 12”, Kruger said.
Kansas State (14-9, 3-7 in the Big 12) held the Sooners to 6-of-24 shooting from behind the 3-point arc, completely disrupting an offense that entered the game leading the nation in 3-point shooting percentage.
Hield and the Sooners have a chance to win a Big 12 and National Title this year and he will probably win many post-season accolades, but one thing Hield will never accomplish in his career in four tries.
The start of the game hardly provided any indication of the result. They allowed Kansas State to shoot 52.9 percent from the field and get to the foul line 30 times.
No. 3 VILLANOVA 72, No. 11 PROVIDENCE 60 (at Providence, R.I.) – Darryl Reynolds had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and the Wildcats held off a late rally to defeat the Friars.
After Wesley Iwundu stripped Hield on the ensuing possession, Cousins went for a steal and got called for a foul that he didn’t think should have been whistled. The hustling Wildcats tracked down every loose ball, and slowly turned a 45-41 deficit into a 58-50 lead.
Even though Kansas State is 0-7 against ranked opponents this season, the Wildcats have had success at the betting window versus the Sooners. He came out on the losing then, too.
Oklahoma: Lattin finished with six points and two rebounds….
Kansas State: Freshman G Barry Brown started for the first time in place of Edwards, and Johnson started in place of Wade….
