Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has put to bed rumours he could quit Spain for England in January.

The Real Madrid striker’s future was the subject of intense debate during the transfer window, with Arsene Wenger identifying Benzema as his primary target in his pursuit for an upgrade on Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman also signed a new contract with Real Madrid in August, a fairly clear sign that Arsenal were not going to get their man. Their man who it’s not even clear that they actually want. “We wait for the media to come out with these rumours”, he said.

But Benzema appears to be less than optimistic over his chances, saying: “I am doing everything possible to come back as quickly as possible”.
