Karni Sena replies to Bhansali on invite to watch ‘Padmaavat’
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had said on January 12 that their governments would not allow the release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-director film.

“On Sunday, we contacted around 100 cinema halls in the National Capital Region and they have given in writing that they will not screen the film”, said Karni Sena spokesperson Vijendra Singh.

India’s supreme court on Thursday approved the release of the controversial Bollywood movie Padmavat and overturned bans on the film imposed by the governments of six states.
Though Haryana and Madhya Pradesh governments had not issued any formal order, the two states had stated they would not allow the exhibition of the film.

Karni Sena activists staged road blockades in Indore, Ujjain and Jhabua. “But as the Supreme Court has now stayed our notification, we will study the order”, he said. Above is the picture of the women marching against the movie’s screening. The Karni Sena’s decision seems like a softening of its stand over the film, after almost a year of protests and just days after the group called Bhansali’s invitation a gimmick, according to IANS.
Owning responsibility for the vandalisation, Karni Sena’s Bihar unit president Dhirendra Kumar said, “The SC has not given its verdict on the Ayodhya issue in decades, but passed an order on Pandmaavat in 7 hours”.
At a press conference on Monday, Kalvi said he had accepted an invitation, allegedly sent by Bhansali Productions, to attend a pre-screening of the film. Like other Chief Ministers, he is also concerned about the law and order situation arising out of the release of the film.
The Supreme Court yesterday lifted ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmaavat starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranvir Singh.

Censoring and release of “Padmavati” took a gradual beating and the film has to postpone from December 1st, 2017 to January 25th, 2018 owing to the death threats and warnings.
