Meanwhile, in a surprising development, Radio Kashmir Srinagar went off air on Saturday and consequently several programs could not be broadcast.According to Kashmir Media Service, this is for the first time that Radio Kashmir Srinagar went off air and the incident happened before the scheduled march called by the joint Hurriyat leadership to government-run radio and TV stations.
“I want to tell Pakistan, if it has any sympathy for Kashmiris, it shouldn’t provoke them to attack police stations – and save youth from being killed”, the Chief Minister said.
“The stone pelting incidents were reported from Barbugh, Hillow, Kadgam in Shopian, Sangam in Anantnag and Watpora, Potshah in Bandipora”, a spokesman of ZPHQ Kashmir said. When police intervened they pelted stones on the security forces and few tear-smoke shells were lobbed to disperse them. “However, curfew was imposed in Srinagar city, Anantnag, Pulwama and Pampore towns”, he said.
At least 25 persons were injured in clashes between protestors and security forces in Kashmir on Saturday as the death toll in the ongoing unrest reached 70.
Curfew was on Saturday lifted from south Kashmir’s Anantnag town after 49 days, even as it remained in force in some other parts of the Valley, including Srinagar, to maintain law and order in view of the separatist plans to march towards the headquarters of Army at Badamibagh.
The statement said that restrictions under section 144/CrPC remained in force in the Valley.
A 52-day curfew in Kashmir witnessed violent protests since the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani last month.
Authorities on Sunday continued curfew and restrictions in Kashmir for the 51st consecutive day.
Shops and business establishments remained closed while public and private transport remained off the roads due to the strike. The attendance in government offices and banks was also affected, the official said.
The meeting with Modi came just two days after Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Srinagar during which he met with Mehbooba, among others, as the Valley continued to remain on the boil and curfew continued for the 50th day.
