Kashmir unrest: Curfew, restrictions continue for 33rd consecutive day

Clashes between rock-throwing residents and government forces firing live ammunition, shotgun pellets and tear gas have caused the deaths of more than 55 civilians and two policemen, with thousands of people injured.

Sources said most of the arrests have been made in the worst hit districts of south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian.

“Some militants were spotted in the mob”, the statement said, adding that two persons were injured while dispersing the mob.

He said restrictions on assembly of four or more people were in force in rest of the Valley as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order. Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday asked shopkeepers to defy separatists’ call for a shutdown and assured complete security “to everybody”.
