Kashmir violence: Ready for peace talks, says Rajnath Singh

Rejecting any third party intervention on Kashmir, Rajnath Singh asked Pakistan not to interfere in India’s internal affairs.

“As far as Government of India is concerned, I want to make it clear that we don’t just want need-based ties, but to build an emotional relationship with Kashmir”, he said, reaching out to the people in the Valley while making a fervent appeal to them to help restore peace and normalcy in the state. He also said that he had asked security forces to refrain from using pellet guns to control the violence that had erupted following the killing of militant Burhan Wani on July 8.

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — India says Pakistan should stop provoking unrest in India’s portion of Kashmir, appealing for calm after two weeks of bloody protests that have left dozens of civilians dead. “They must change their attitude and mindset vis-a-vis Jammu and Kashmir…” “I also express regret and offer my condolences to the families of those who have died”, he said. He urged security forces to avoid using pellet guns that have blinded several protesters.

“The drop seen of this drama was staged by bringing people with their face covered in hospital vans and dubbing them representatives of Kashmiris”, he said. “Let us face reality and accept these protests are against India”, Abdullah told in an interview with India Today TV’s anchor Karan Thapar.

“After keeping millions of Kashmiris under curfew, killing more than 50 innocents and showering bullets on more than 4,000 innocent people, this visit is probably aimed at emboldening killer forces and so-called Kashmiri rulers”.

“We want to tell our neighbouring country (Pakistan) that you are yourself a victim of terrorism”. Slamming the prime minister’s statement as mere “rhetoric”, it said that politicians utter these statements to win the masses’ support and the people continue to suffer due to this mentality. “Talking about Kashmir’s accession with Pakistan is easy but nobody knows how it will happen”, the Daily Times said.

He had arrived to oversee the security situation in Kashmir and hold talks with various political and civil society groups.

“I have said in my speech in Parliament that an expert committee will be set up to look into the pellet gun issue and it will submit a report in two months”, he said. He also had extensive discussions with Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her Cabinet. “I have told the Chief Minister that those injured who can’t be treated here should be sent to Delhi”. “People should not forget the same security force personnel put their lives in danger to save people (during the floods)”, said Singh. Radio Pakistan should be praised for raising this matter of human rights violation before global audience. He said if a plane is required to airlift patients to Delhi, it will be kept at disposal “to treat all the injured children”.
