Kasich campaigns in New Hampshire day before Iowa caucuses
“If by some miracle Christie beats someone who actually tried in Iowa, say Jeb Bush, he could actually get a bounce out of the state and maybe even force Jeb out, ” said Matthew Hale, Seton Hall University political scientist professor.

Iowa residents will be the first to cast votes in the 2016 presidential nominating process.
Both campaigns say a final deal has not yet been reached and the Democratic National Committee has not signed off on the agreement.
Christie’s compelling recollection of losing a friend to drug addiction was captured in a Huffington Post video in October 2015, which at last count had racked up more than 8.6 million views on Facebook and liked by site founder Mark Zuckerberg and tens of thousands more. So if he inches up to 3 percent on Monday – that’s a 50 percent increase!
And to some, Branstad’s appearance comes a little too late for the Christie effort in Iowa.
The candidates are taking no chances: Republicans and Democrats alike made 55 stops in Iowa on Saturday, criss-crossing every corner of the state.
Chris Christie attends a campaign event December 19 in Bedford, N.H.
But Kasich, for his part, said he was happy to have it. “I’ve proven that I can attract voters across the board”, he told Fox News. The outside political organization backing Bush, called Right to Rise, has launched television ads declaring Kasich “wrong on New Hampshire issues”, citing his decision to expand Medicaid in OH – something New Hampshire has also done.
Iowa is front and center this weekend, explaining why Christie has spent most of this week there, leaving it to surrogates, including his wife, to campaign in New Hampshire. And Branstad personally lobbied Christie to veto a New Jersey bill that would have banned the practice of confining pregnant pigs in “gestational” crates.
“Our campaign in New Hampshire knocked on 23 thousand doors in two weekends”, Christie said.
In past voting cycles, supposedly people stopped paying attention to candidates who didn’t finish near the top in Iowa.
Larry Reves, a 71-year-old Iowa City retiree, was impressed by Kasich’s qualifications from his nine terms in Congress and two terms as Ohio’s governor.
“I’ve seen the polls”. “We’re going to bring our country back”, he said, “and we’re going to be proud again”.
“I want you to know that the things I’m promising are basically things I’ve already done”, Kasich said.
The New Jersey governor said he is confident his campaign will “over-perform” what the polls show.
Trump leads the poll at 31%, 7 points ahead of Ted Cruz. For a candidate sitting at around 2% in the polls, it’s quite an assist.
Asked about the teaching of creationism versus evolution, Kasich said it should be a state’s choice, explaining that placing the power there gives parents the best access to effect change.
“I’d like to be the No. 1 governor, Laura”.
That’s noticeably less than some of his competitors for the Republican nomination.
Rubio accuses Cruz of deciding “to run a deceitful campaign”.

In Amherst, Kasich fielded one question on his support for Common Core standards by saying, “I don’t know what that really means, let me tell you what I’m for, in my state I’m for high standards and a curriculum set by local school boards”.
