Republican presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich said a brokered convention is “likely” as he advised competitors not to “whine” about how it would work.

A poll conducted by the anti-Trump group Our Principle PAC now finds him narrowly leading Rubio 35 to 30 percent, with Texas senator Ted Cruz at 16 percent and Ohio Governor John Kasich at 9 percent.

Kasich leads Trump 33 to 31 percent in the Great Lakes State followed by Sen.

The Republican governor has vowed to drop out of the race if he does not win the OH primary on March 15, which awards 66 delegates.

Kasich’s campaign, alongside the state GOP and the outside group backing his candidacy, is running an aggressive ground game aimed at reminding voters why they’ve twice elected Kasich to the governor’s seat.

In Florida, two-thirds of the electorate say they have definitely decided whom to support, including more than 8 in 10 Trump supporters.

Matt Buche, 56, said he was planning to vote for Kasich later Tuesday because he’s “the only moderate in the race”.

Mr. Kasich had been counting on the state up north serving as the first brick in a Midwest-Rust Belt firewall against Mr. Trump.

In a phone-interview with Fox News Channel, Trump called his campaign a global phenomenon and said it was time for the party to unify behind him.

He’s won just 37 delegates so far this cycle, compared to 384 for Trump and 300 for Cruz, but has made MI a key focus as he seeks the Republican nomination.

Gov. Kasich: “No, no I think he’s trying to solve the problem here, he’s had many sleepless nights”.

“A country has to lock its doors, we have to know who is coming in”, Mr. Kasich said. “We’d like to finish the deal – but that’s up to the voters of MI”.
