As Donald Trump was elevated to the presumptive presidential nominee of the Republican Party, a new poll showed the Manhattan billionaire starting off a general-election matchup Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton down by double digits. “I’m not running against him”.

HILLARY CLINTON (D), Democratic Presidential Candidate: I have seen the presidency up close from two different perspectives, and I think I know what it takes. Trump gets 52% of white voters according to the poll, with Clinton getting 43%.
California republicans now have to make some decisions before next month’s primary: fall in line and support Trump or sit it out.
Two-term Republican Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley has ruled out a vice presidential run but signalled that she would vote for her party’s presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump.
However, Trump’s long history of inflammatory comments about women and minorities has some Republicans anxious about the effect of his nomination on down-ticket races, especially among women and minority voters.
Second, his most vocal supporters have spent the primaries trashing the Republican Party and declaring anti-Trump conservatives irrelevant. “I think it’s great news for us in Utah, especially since he performed badly, by a lot, at our caucuses”.
“He is a loose cannon, and loose cannons tend to misfire”, Clinton said in an interview with CNN, citing Trump stances including an allegation that climate change was a Chinese hoax. “I think it will be positive in the end”, he told reporters, noting the votes Trump attracted from Ohioans who had never voted for a Republican.
Trump can now prepare for a match-up in the November 8 general election.
“He’s going to join the Republican Party and we’re going to be prepared when that happens”, he added.

“I’m on the Trump train”, Westrate said. The band’s 1969 classic You can’t always get what you wantwas a popular song for Trump’s events. For example, in 2010, Tea Party activists rallied to give Republicans control of the U.S. House of Representatives on the promise that Obamacare funding would be ended. Should enough well-known Republicans refuse to hit the campaign trail on his behalf – or, worse, should one of those Republicans launch an independent campaign of their own – Mr. Trump’s loyal, vocal base may not be big enough to save him. Ryan has policy proposals in the works on taxes and other issues that House GOP candidates can tout regardless of what Trump does, while McConnell has privately told senators that lawmakers seeking re-election could drop him “like a hot rock”. That’s what they have found in Donald Trump. Then he lost to Mr. Trump by 16.6 points.
