Kasich Stumbles On Maid Comment While Trying to Woo Latino Voters

Republican presidential hopeful John Kasich has been known, from time to time, to share anecdotes that get him into trouble.

“I look at our friends in the Latino community as people [who] ought to be voting Republican”, Kasich said, according to the Columbus Dispatch. “We can’t abide by the fact they violated it.’ In addition to that, if we have the intelligence that they’re on the verge of building a nuke, I think military action is something that has to be strongly considered”.

“I’m from Ohio, [Hillary Clinton] won’t beat me there”, Kasich said with conviction. Because they are great, they are God-fearing, hard-working folks. Kasich has come out against shutting down the federal government over Planned Parenthood funding, he said a conservative Kentucky clerk of courts who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses should do her job and doesn’t oppose attending gay weddings. “So, you know, we can learn a lot and she’s Hispanic, ’cause I didn’t know it at the time, but I met her in the hallway, asked her if I could get a little more soap”.

He praised the housekeeper of his Los Angeles hotel room, who wrote a note: “I really want you to know that I care about your stay”.

“Is that just the greatest thing?” he continued.

“So, you know, we can learn a lot”.

The Kasich campaign said the GOP candidate was referring to the service industry in general. He did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment. He also backs immigration reform that would grant the nation’s estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants a path to legal residency.

But there’s pushback to that narrative as well.

Kasich said the US shouldn’t try to “go it alone”, and that the country to should work with our European allies to monitor Iran following the agreement. Every registered republican voter in Kansas can vote at the caucus.
