Kate Upton joins Dave Franco, Josh Hutcherson in “The Disaster Artist”

James Franco’s new film is turning into a big old reunion for friends and comedy types who love Tommy Wiseau’s so-bad-it’s-great-melodrama The Room. Even better is the fact it’ll be a tag-team effort between James and his lil’ bro Dave, who is playing Greg Sestero – aka, The Room’s second-hand man and the author of the tell-all account The Disaster Artist is based on. The book chronicles Sestero’s life before, during and after his involvement in the film, as well as his relationship with Wiseau, who wrote, produced, starred in, and directed The Room despite not being qualified for any of those positions.

It’s a tough call, but sometimes everything works out perfectly, as seems to have happened with the casting of James Franco as Tommy Wiseau in the upcoming film The Disaster Artist – though, it must be said, Franco did cast himself. No word yet on who will portray the actress who plays Lisa. Both Kate Upton and Josh Hutcherson have been confirmed to have roles in the film, and today The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Zac Efron will cameo as a drug dealer. The film will also star Seth Rogen, who is producing alongside his Point Grey Pictures partners Evan Goldberg, Vince Jolivette and Good Universe.

The movie began shooting Monday in Los Angeles, adding Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Buress and Andrew Santino.

Tommy Wiseau will be involved in the film in one way or another. It’s considered one of the worst movies ever made, and that’s because it is. And damn, they look just like the characters they’re playing.

The Disaster Artist is expected for release sometime next year. In any case, knowing the always avant-garde Franco, there’s no way this movie will be boring.
