The Golden Globes Awards ceremony has wrapped up for the evening.
Embattled actor/director Mel Gibson made a rare appearance during the gala as a presenter, following a scathing introduction by host Ricky Gervais. While “The Revenant” was made under constantly challenging circumstances, the result was worth the struggle, Inarritu said, whose movie “Birdman” won four Oscars a year ago, including best picture and best director.
The Martian picked up two Golden Globes in the “comedy” category – though even director Ridley Scott appeared to question whether it could really be classed as such, when he picked up the award for best comedy film.
Jennifer Lawrence said she wanted to be buried next to Joy director David O Russell after winning the prize for best actress in a musical or comedy.
Lady Gaga, 29, was so overcome with emotion after winning at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards she didn’t even notice that she smacked right into Leonardo DiCaprio, 41.
Like when “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s” Rachel Bloom beat out Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lily Tomlin and Gina Rodriguez for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
American actress Maura Tierney, who is best known for her role as nurse Abby Lockhart on ER, has won the Best Supporting Actress Series-Limited Series TV Movie Golden Globe.
Brie Larson won in the best actress drama category for her poignant portrayal of a woman held captive for years in an enclosed space with her five-year-old son in “Room”.
Mr. Robot also brought a supporting actor prize for Christian Slater as Globe organisers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, continued their tradition of recognising new programming. “I think that sequence is going to go down in the history of cinema as an unbelievable…sequence that makes people feel like they were there”. It’s Taraji P. Henson from “Empire” and she’s handing out cookies!
This year’s award was the third for Lawrence, who previously won best actress for “Silver Linings Playbook” and best supporting actress for “American Hustle“.
“But I wouldn’t bet my money on it because there are other possibilities”, he said. The pair are presenting Best Supporting Actress… and the award goes to Kate Winslet for “Steve Jobs”!
When Fey and Poehler did not return for 2016, Gervais was asked back and he sought to put the Hollywood awards in proper perspective.
