Katherine Heigl Returning to TV in New CBS Legal Drama

Katherine Heigl has replaced KaDee Strickland in CBS’ Doubt pilot, which will be getting a second shot at becoming a full-fledged series with a reworked pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project, produced by CBS TV Studios and Timberman/Beverly Prods, centers on Sadie Ellis (Heigl), a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who shockingly gets romantically involved with one of her clients, Billy, who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime. Male lead Teddy Sears is also likely to be recast as CBS continues to have high hopes for the drama. Both also work on GREY’S ANATOMY. The cast still includes Laverne Cox, Dreama Walker,Dulé Hill, Elliott Gould and Kobi Libii. The outspoken actress has never been one to mince words, even going so far as refusing to submit a clip to the Emmy board because she thought that her material on the show wasn’t well-written enough.

With State of Affairs among the series passed over for renewal last spring, that leaves Katherine Heigl available for other shows.

It’s been five years since Heigl left the ABC medical drama that made her famous amid rumors of a clashing of egos with creator and showrunner Shonda Rhymes. She is represented by WME, Nancy Heigl and Silver Lining Entertainment.

Executive producing the pilot are Tony Phelan & Joan Rater, Carl Beverly & Sarah Timberman and Bernstein.
