Katie Ledecky leads US to Olympic gold in 4X200M freestyle relay

Phelps won the 12th individual Olympic Gold medal of his career in the 200-meter butterfly Tuesday night. These sources, he said “provide more of an outline than anything”, and that’s the reason why Phelps’ tying of the record is best taken “with a dollop of olive oil”.

Australia, who led until Ledecky dived in and turned the race around, took silver and Canada the bronze. Phelps now has a chance to win a fourth consecutive gold in the 200 IM, while Lochte has the opportunity to finally beat Phelps. “We’ve literally duked it out back and forth”. “This is a special one to both of us”.

Back in 2012, the 17-year-old was the darling of the London Games, winning five Olympic medals and winning over the world with her big smile. “It’s going to be a pretty good matchup”.

Phelps’ quest for another medal is not the only story of the day. Lochte, 32, is battling injuries.

Phelps came away with the victory, clocking one minute, 55.78 seconds to post the fastest time across both semifinals.

Phelps qualified fourth fastest in 51.60 seconds for the 100 fly. Lochte will swim in Lane 5.

DiRado’s gold completed her set, having already earned a silver and bronze in the two women’s individual medleys. Sjostrom swam the third leg for Sweden, which was seeking to medal in the event for the first time.

They are, though, two completely different swimmers here. Manuel just barely missed the American record in the semis on Wednesday, swimming a personal best time of 53.11.

In other events, Kazakhstan has its first Olympic swimming medal.

The Americans trailed Australia after three legs, but Ledecky chased down Tamsin Cook for the win.

Franklin, who won four golds in London four years ago but suffered a dramatic loss of form at the USA trials, swam in the heats and collected a gold for doing so despite being dropped for the final.

His final opportunity in the Olympic Aquatics Stadium pool comes Thursday in his favorite event against his favorite rival – the 200 individual medley with Phelps. My career would definitely be different. “But it doesn’t matter how many events, I just got to get up on those blocks”. Neither is likely to approach that number Thursday night.

Congratulations as always to Phelps, and Locthe, congratulations on being the Ryan Lochte of self-knowledge, honesty, and telling faces.

“It’s exciting”, said Phelps, an enthusiastic Ravens fan. “I’m looking forward to it”.
