“I went to put my shoe on and I looked down at it, and I started to get emotional”. Most are betting on 19-year-old Katie Ledecky.

“Done, done, done – and this time I mean it”, he told “TODAY’s” Matt Lauer on Monday.

Phelps, 31, who is engaged to Nicole Johnson, was preparing to swim his final Olympic race in the 4×100 meter medley relay last weekend when something from Boomer caught his eye.

Michael Phelps believes his final Olympic Games could not have gone any better and included one of the best races of his life.

Phelps said plans now include dedicating himself to family and travel.

But, between London and Rio, Phelps emerged out of retirement to ensure that he finished his illustrious career on Saturday night with several records against his name, none of which need to be spelt out as it all remains well documented. And then she was like, ‘What about 100 fly? He was named captain of the United States swimming squad, led Team USA into Rio as the flag-bearer at his first Opening Ceremony, mentored his younger teammates and led them to victory in several relay events, captured his 23rd individual gold medal while simultaneously giving Team USA its 1,001st – and even became a social media sensation for his pre-race focus.

“I’ve met my goals and I think, more importantly, I’ve had more fun than I could have ever imagined”, Ledecky told reporters at a news conference the day after her final swim in Rio. Twenty-one-year-old Joseph Schooling touched the wall first, becoming the first ever Olympic champion from Singapore. “I think that showed at times on camera”.

“I was walking with my backpack on one shoulder, the baby’s backpack on the other shoulder and the vehicle seat in one hand so daddy duties are on me”, he said.

“This has been such a passion of mine and a big sport for me, and I want to help these guys as much as I can”, Phelps said.
