“It was a star-studded field, just glad that it all went well”, Ledecky told Michele Tafoya on Universal Sports. She already won the 1,500 freestyle, lowering her world record in the preliminaries and final. “I am pretty shocked that I was able to do that”.
Ledecky, 18, has entered seven career Worlds events and won gold in all of them.
18-year old American swimming prodigy, Katie Ledecky, accidentally breaks her own record in 1500 Freestyle during a qualifying round at the FINA Swimming Championship in Kazan, Russia.
Reporters were eager to learn how she does it and she said there was more to it than her pasta lunch.
“I have a couple of races left to give my all in. You never quite know what will happen but I am really happy with that swim tonight and it shows I have some really good fitness”.
In January, Ledecky chopped.
There were two personal best performances among the other Kiwi swimmers but none qualified for finals.
Boyle joked about her distance from victor Ledecky, but was delighted with her time.
The U.S. squad of Jimmy Feigen, Anthony Ervin, Matt Grevers and Conor Dwyer tied Germany to win the final heat but placed only 11th overall – missing out on the eight-team final later Sunday. In the next year, it would not be stunning to see Ledecky do enough to put herself in position to be a member of the American 400 freestyle relay for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This lists includes the legendary Janet Evans and Australian Shane Gould. He will be competing at U.S. nationals in Texas this week.
That was the only direction the 18-year-old American lacked on the opening night of pool swimming Sunday at the world championships. She will duel world record holder Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania, who was second-fastest in the semifinals.
Defending champion Le Clos settled for silver in 1:53.68, and Jan Switkowski of Poland earned bronze in 1:54.10. Michael Phelps was forced to miss the event because of a suspension.
“Between me and Cameron it’s an awesome rivalry”, Peaty said.
“I’ve done that way too many times”, Lochte said of quick turnarounds. I knew that if I wanted to have any chance I had to go out with a really fast pace.
Great Britain’s Adam Peaty followed his 100m breaststroke title with a 50m breast gold medal in 26.51, which was.
Sun Yang of China rallied to take the lead on the next-to-last lap and won the 800 free in 7:39.96 to go with his earlier victory in the 400 free. Kevin Cordes of the United States was third in 26.86. The 50m breast is not contested at the Olympics.
Hosszu then announced she was scratching the rest of the event to focus on the 200 individual medley final later Monday.
The 200 field she beat had swimmers with more than 40 world and Olympic medals on their resumes, including 2013 champion Franklin, who has been fighting back problems, and world record-holder Federica Pellegrini of Italy, who would finish second.
