“It was a star-studded field, just glad that it all went well”, Ledecky told Michele Tafoya on Universal Sports. She already won the 1,500 freestyle, lowering her world record in the preliminaries and final. “I am pretty shocked that I was able to do that”.

Hosszu then announced she was scratching the rest of the event to focus on the 200 individual medley final later Monday.

The 200 field she beat had swimmers with more than 40 world and Olympic medals on their resumes, including 2013 champion Franklin, who has been fighting back problems, and world record-holder Federica Pellegrini of Italy, who would finish second.
