The second trip was a year later for the 12th IAAF World Junior Championships and this time the country struck gold through Folasade Abugan (51.84) who became the third Nigerian after Fatima Yusuf (1990) and Bisi Afolabi (1994) to win the 400m title.
The Championships were initially supposed to be held in Kazan, but they were stripped of hosting rights by the IAAF past year after Russia’s suspension for widespread doping.
Long jumping sensation Samiyah Samuels was on the runway to begin the morning session in the first round of the women’s long jump.
Janelle Fullerton also placed sixth in her group and 10th overall in the women’s shot put, with 14.33 metres, but failed to advance. She will also compete in the qualifier for the triple jump on Friday at 5:50 a.m. ET. While Praise Idamadudu and Yinka Ajayi missed out in the women 400m heats.
Field events at the World U20 Championships will employ a new competition protocol in finals.

A total of 1,518 athletes have been entered to compete. Muhammad made his U.S. National Team debut. He turned the last corner of the race in fourth place while Abdalelah Haroun of Qatar and Karabo Sibanda of Botswana battled for first and second comfortably ahead of the other competitors.
“Our biggest goal is to represent Team USA in a lovely manner”, Hill said. The city is the first to host the World U20 Championships twice.
