Katinka Hosszu takes second gold of Rio Games in 100m backstroke

Sixty-seven women of Troy have occupied spots on Olympic rosters ranging the globe.

Among them, swimmers like Janet Evans and Rebecca Soni stand out most profoundly, as both are regarded as legends produced by the swimming program.

Le Clos returned to the pool later in the evening to resume his rivalry with 19-time Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps in the semi-final of the 200m butterfly, a title the South African is defending.

Having led at the turn, Australia’s world champion Mitch Larkin finished out of the medals in fourth.

Hosszu, who competes for the Hungarian national team, has been the breakthrough performer in the Women’s swimming events thus far in Rio.

The 21-year-old American stopped the clock in 51.97 seconds, with China’s Xu Jiayu taking silver and Murphy’s compatriot David Plummer the bronze.

As the Washington Post reported, Hicks deemed Tusup “the man responsible” for making his wife into the powerhouse she is today.

The 2008 Beijing games saw Hosszu finish 12th in the 400m IM and 17th in the 200m IM.

“I think the biggest issue with her is her husband”, the piece quoted her former couch Dave Salo as saying.

She’s also entered in the 200m medley, the 200m butterfly and the 100m and 200m backstroke.

“No, the hard part of swimming is that there’s a lot of times you just settle for OK, and we agreed that the goal was never to settle for OK, that we’re going to keep pushing, even if we don’t get it, to be great, to be wonderful, to be legendary”.

Hosszu is a class above the rest of the field here, so barring a disqualification the gold looks to be hers, but after that there’s a battle for the minor medals.

A commentator is being criticized after crediting a swimming coach, not the swimmer herself, for the swimmer’s record-setting performance at the 2016 Olympics.
