Katy Perry belts ‘Rise’ and ‘Roar’ at Democratic convention

The pop star gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of voting before singing her new single, Rio Olympics anthem “Rise”, and empowering 2013 hit “Roar” just before the USA presidential candidate took to the stage.

That voice came in the form of Katy Perry, who performed her mega-hits ‘Roar” and “Rise”, telling the crowd that even though her own parents are “pastors and staunch Republicans’ and she didn’t finish high school, she has an open mind. Or you can just cancel out your weird cousin’s vote, if you like. This feat is all the more fascinating given that Katy Perry has not released a new album in nearly three years; her lukewarm but hit-producing Prism came out in October 2013. This March, Perry performed for the Hillary Victory Fund I’m With Her Concert at Radio City Music Hall in NY.

Instead, boyfriend Orlando Bloom took the spotlight when he was spotted filming the entire performance on his cell phone.

She told America how her mother left notes for her when she traveled, raised her to know how fortunate a life she had and challenged her not to squander it by changing what “frustrated me, to change what felt wrong”.

“That’s right, I love Hillary too”. It’s safe, one-size-fits-all empowerment: She does not have to change up the set list when she performs at a sporting event or a political convention.

Singer Katy Perry is rehearsing for her primetime appearance tonight at the Democratic National Convention.

Day kept her focus on the performance, showcasing her absolutely stunning vocals on “Rise Up” without additional commentary. Thousands of convention delegates have been invited across the Delaware River to Camden for an afternoon concert with the pop star, which also will include performances by Lenny Kravitz and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Orlando Bloom is used to being the one in front of the cameras, especially since his steamy relationship with Katy Perry began.
