Katy Perry unveils surprise single for 2016 Rio Olympics

We thought today was going to be all about Britney Spears, but it looks like Katy Perry had other plans… Spotify listeners might struggle to hear this rallying cry of unity, however, as Perry has made “Rise” available only on Apple Music.

After dominating the Billboard charts with her third album Prism, Katy Perry took some much-needed time off for the previous year or so.

Rise will be used by NBC Olympics’ production team during its broadcast of the games, including its coverage of the Opening Ceremony.

Queen of Twitter and Singer-Songwriter Katy Perry has released her new song entitled “RISE” just in time before the Olympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Perry said the song had been “brewing” inside her for years but that she saw it as timely in light of troubles around the world. Katy has always been rumoured to have beef with Taylor, and chose to retweet a message she had posted on Twitter at the height of the reported feud back in 2015 on Wednesday.

In an apparent reference to Brexit and the rise of Donald Trump, the popstar continued: “I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world”. And a cinema spot is in development, the result of which will be seen in more than 20,000 cinemas from Friday (July 15).

“When you think the final nail is in / Think again / Don’t be surprised / I will still rise”, Perry sings on the song.

Meanwhile, Katy’s motivational number Rise, which will be used in USA network NBC’s coverage of the Games, is also set for a rise in the charts.
