Katz: New Poll Reveals Political Climate In Florida

Business mogul Donald Trump is holding on to his lead as the front-runner in the GOP presidential race, according to a Bloomberg poll released on Thursday. They’re followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 10% support, Florida Sen.

Trump, according to Real Clear Politics polling data, has polled in the 20s in most polls since the end of July, rising here and there but maintaining about a 25 percent posting – with a brief jump into the 30s in early September – since then.

Interviews were conducted by phone among 820 New Hampshire residents, including 344 who had said they planned to vote in the Republican presidential primary. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, 46 percent to 30 percent, while Vice President Joe Biden, who has not yet decided if he will run for president, was supported by 14 percent.

A third of Kasich’s supporters say they are backing him because of his experience and record, which he has emphasized during repeated visits to New Hampshire. “Or they want to propel other candidates into the forefront because they know that Mr. Trump can’t be bought and is only accountable to the American voter”. He has the highest unfavorability score of any Republican candidate, at just more than 40%, while about half of Republicans view him favorably. Marco Rubio rounds out the top five at 9 percent.

The bad news for Clinton is that were the general election held today, Rubio, Bush, and former neurosurgeon Ben Carson all beat her in the southern swing state.

Carson has zoomed to second place in most polls, and I think his debate performance will give him another boost.

The GOP results don’t show much of a gender divide, with Trump performing fairly evenly among men (25 percent) and women (24 percent). The results show that in a match-up with Carson, the Republican would have 51.7 percent of Floridians’ support, while Clinton would have 39.5 percent. But if that proves to be a ceiling on Trump’s support, his long-term prospects would dim as other candidates dropped out.

Carson was second, at 18 percent, up from 12 percent – and next were Fiorina and Florida Sen. What really matters is how voters feel about candidates on a gut level.

It should be noted that Fiorina, in addition to humanizing herself, and showing she has a decent singing voice, also looked pretty good – contrary to what fellow candidate Donald Trump criticized as her un-electable face.
